Obituary for Sandra Ruth Burrell Marcengill

Sandra Burrell Marcengill, 65, wife of Danny L. Marcengill Sr., departed from this life and entered Heaven after a yearlong battle with cancer. Sandra died peacefully, surrounded by her immediate family and her sisters on Friday, May 25, 2018.
Sandra was born late Spring of 1952, in the shadows of Knob Mountain in Tamassee, SC to Homer B. and Ruth Owens Burrell. Sandra was the ninth child of twelve siblings. In 1960, Sandra went to live with Bill and Sara Cothran of Westminster where she was reared in the home until she was 18. Sandra graduated from Westminster High School in 1970 as a licensed cosmetologist, and just a couple weeks after graduation would marry her high school sweetheart, Danny L Marcengill, Sr. Danny and Sandra would have been married for 48 years this June.
In her youth, Sandra learned to play the piano and would later play the piano and organ for several churches in Oconee County for approximately 20 years. Sandra offered her talents by substituting at churches for absent pianist and organist and also volunteering her services for funerals and weddings. Sandra was active with the GA’s and would later become WMU Leader. Sandra was also VBS director for many years when her children were young.
Sandra did not believe in ever being idle, for she always kept a spotless home while working a full-time job, being a great wife, and raising two boys. Sandra began her career after high school by going to work as a cosmetologist at Tri-City Beauty Center. A few years later, she went to work at Cothran’s Beauty Shop, where she spent the majority of her career. After roughly 20 years, Sandra ended her beautician career where she started, at Tri-City Beauty Center. In the mid-nineties, Sandra went to work alongside her husband and sons at Allstate-Marcengill Agency, Inc.
In the early 2000s, Sandra and Danny both retired from the insurance industry, and would begin to see the world. They enjoyed going on cruises to various parts of the Caribbean and not long ago, took a cruise in Europe. However, Sandra and Danny most enjoyed being at their second home in Garden City, SC. Sandra loved to be in the sun on the beach and taking long walks alongside the ocean. Sandra also enjoyed all aspects of the beach atmosphere and especially enjoyed an ice cream at the Garden City Pier.
Sandra lived a wonderful life and left her mark and a legacy despite a tough beginning. She leaves behind her husband, Danny, of 47 years and two sons, Danny L Marcengill Jr. (Shanelle) and Jared B Marcengill (Keri). Sandra is also survived by six grandkids, Faith Andrey (Luis), Danny L. “Trey” MarcengiIl III, Emma Marcengill, Owen Kerr, Mattie Marcengill, and Lilli Marcengill. Sandra also leaves behind four brothers and six sisters: James, Curtis, Donald, and Joseph Burrell, and sisters, Lois Lyda, Carolyn Duvall, Juanita Johns, Sharon Phillips, Martha Grant, and Peggy Burton and numerous nieces and nephews. Sandra was preceded in death by a brother, Clark Edward Burrell. Sandra currently attended Foothills Community Church while in the Upstate, and Garden City Chapel while on the coast. Sandra will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
Funeral service will be held 4 pm, Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 pm, prior to the service at Sandifer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Golden Corner Food Pantry and the Cottingham Hospice House.
