Obituary for Bruce McGuffin


Westminster – Robert Bruce McGuffin, 93, widower of the late Annie Bell Owens McGuffin, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Cottingham Hospice House.

Mr. McGuffin was born on August 7, 1924 in Oconee County to the late Mann Luke and Kate Cox McGuffin. He retired from Beacon Manufacturing after 42 years of service. He served one year at Fort Jackson CCC Camp 1941-42, served in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer 1942-46 aboard four ships, the last one being the U.S.S. Missouri from December 1945 – May 1946 during the Asiatic & Pacific Theater. He also was a member of Westminster First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Steve McGuffin (Martha) of Westminster; three daughters, Patsy Sheriff (Bill) of Seneca, Nancy Carter (Wayne) of Westminster, and Susan Moss (Tommy) of Walhalla; brother, ML McGuffin, Jr. (Gwen) of Westminster; sister, Martha Ann Hall (Woodrow) of Cape Coral, FL; daughter-in-law, Edna McGuffin; ten grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and a close special friend, Debbie Dickson Canupp.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Carlos McGuffin and grandson, Tony McGuffin; sister, Mildred Nix; and brothers, Ernest, Broadus, Fred, Joe and Bobby McGuffin.

A funeral service will be held 11 am, Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Westminster First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Sandifer Funeral Home.
